The Star Island Corporation, a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization with offices based in Portsmouth, NH, seeks qualified candidates for the positions listed below.

Star Island Corporation owns and operates Star Island in the Isles of Shoals, New Hampshire. The island is ten miles from mainland New Hampshire and is operated as a seasonal religious and educational conference facility. The Corporation generates and manages all its own utilities (water, waste, power) and operates its own first aid station. The island has 34 buildings including numerous historic hotel and guest housing buildings as well as utility buildings and meeting spaces. The Corporation also operates a transportation system for both guests and staff that comprises Corporation-owned and staffed boats as well as contracted ferry and boat resources. The Corporation employs 9 year-round staff people and between 100 and 120 seasonal staff people ("Pelicans", largely college-aged) annually.

The Star Island Corporation, a not-for-profit 501(c) (3) organization with offices based in Portsmouth, NH seeks qualified candidates for the 3/4-time position of Human Resources Manager.

Star Island operates a seasonal educational and religious conference center located on one of the historic Isles of Shoals off the New Hampshire/Maine seacoast. The summer staff number over 100 and are largely college-aged workers.

The HR Manager reports to the Chief Executive Officer and is the principal administrator of Star Island Corporation’s personnel programs and is responsible for meeting strategic and operating goals in this area. The HR Manager will provide day-to-day management, administration, and vision to ensure that the company has proper policies, procedures and reporting in place to effectively and efficiently implement the personnel programs of the organization.

Qualifications: Bachelors Degree in applicable discipline and/or 5+ years experience in a management position overseeing human resources, preferably in non-profit organizations; demonstrated success in developing & delivering employee training programs; demonstrated success in HR policy & procedure development & implementation; demonstrated success in communications with diverse employee populations; strong verbal & written communications skills needed; some familiarity with employment & cultural issues in seasonal organizations helpful. Those with proven ability to thrive in a complex work environment are particularly encouraged to apply.
